Make your own yellow mustard

All you need is a cup of water, three quarter cup dry mustard, three quarter teaspoon coarse salt, half teaspoon ground turmeric, one teaspoon garlic puree, half cup distilled vinegar and a quarter teaspoon paprika.

  • Mix water, dry mustard, salt, turmeric, garlic and paprika in a pan until smooth.
  • Leave to cool over medium-heat until it turns to a thick paste. Give it 40 -45 minutes and it will be a thick paste as dry mustard is a true flour which naturally creates a sauce when added to a liquid.
  • Add the vinegar to the mustard mixture and cook for seven more minutes until the desired consistency is reached.
  • Allow the mustard to cool then store it in an airtight container.

You could do without turmeric but if the bright yellow colour is what you need, then turmeric is the top requirement. It provides your homemade mustard with a desired shed of yellow. If you are short of turmeric, yellow food colouring will do.
