Steps To Reheat Burrito

Reheat Burrito

A burrito is filled with so many different ingredients that just complement each other so well and I have never met anyone who is not fond of them. They make a great lunch and sometimes you can actually have them for dinner. The cool thing about burritos is that they have the ability to be stored in the refrigerator and be reheated after a few days. So if you have a tendency of having leftover burritos here are a few pointers of how to reheat burrito so that the tortilla stays crispy.

Contents

Reheat burrito using an oven

NB: this is the most widely recommended way of reheating a burrito. It will retain the crispy texture of the tortilla considering that a burrito is filled up with a lot of wet ingredients.

Step 1

When using the oven method to reheat a burrito start by preheating the oven to 225 degrees. Take the burrito out of the refrigerator and wrap it with aluminium foil. This will help to protect the whole burrito so that it retains its crispy taste.

Step 2

Take the wrapped burrito and place it inside the preheated oven and allow the burrito to reheat for about 30 minutes.

Step 3

When the 30 minute time mark has passed remove the burrito from the oven. Make sure you use oven mitts to avoid burning your hands. Check to see if the burrito is reheated all the way through. Use a thermometer to do this and the thermometer should give you a reading of 165F.

Step 4

If the burrito is completely reheated serve it immediately and enjoy it whilst hot for the best taste.

Reheat a burrito using a toaster oven

NB: this method is convenient if you do not have an oven and it is also a bit faster.

Step 1

When using the toaster oven to reheat burrito, cover the burrito with foil paper but just make sure you live the top part that shows the filling exposed so that when reheating the burrito heat can properly enter inside.

Step 2

Place the burrito inside the toaster oven which is turned on to 400F. Ensure that the exposed area is facing upwards so that the filling can also warm up. Allow the burrito to reheat for about 10 to 12 minutes inside the toaster oven. If you want to have a really crispy outside remove the foil paper 8 minutes after placing the burrito in the toaster oven. Then return the burrito inside the toaster oven for 2 to 3 minutes until it achieves the crispiness you are looking for.

Reheat burrito using a microwave

NB: this is the most convenient method to use but the results of using a microwave to reheat a burrito differ from that of using an oven. This is because a microwave radiates a lot of heat so the tortilla might not come out as crispy as you would expect it to be.

Step 1

Start by removing your burrito from the refrigerator and unwrapping it. Place it inside a microwave safe bowl or plate. Add a few drops of water on top of the tortilla. This will help to moisten the tortilla so that during the reheating process it doesn’t turn soggy.

Step 2

Place the burrito inside the microwave and set the timer to 1 minute. Reheat the burrito for the stipulated time and when the 1 minute time mark has passed, flip the burrito over and sprinkle the other side with water. Reheat the burrito for another minute before taking it out.

Step 3

Remove the burrito from the microwave and take a thermometer. Use it to read the internal temperature of the burrito. It should read 165F. If it is below this return it into the microwave for an additional 30 seconds.  When the burrito is reheated you can serve it while hot.

Reheat burrito using a stove

NB: the stove gives the burrito a crispy outside which is something that you definitely want to achieve.

Step 1

Start by taking a non-stick pan then spray the surface of the pan with oil. This will help to protect the burrito from sticking to the bottom of the pan. Place the non-stick pan on a stove that is turned on to medium heat.

Step 2

Take the burrito out of the refrigerator and unwrap it. When the oil starts to shimmer place the burrito inside.

Step 3

Press the burrito so that the tortilla can get crispy. Cover the pan with a lid and allow the burrito to reheat on 1 side for about 5 minutes. When the 5 minute time mark has passed flip the burrito over and cover it again with a lid. Allow the burrito to reheat for another 5 minutes.

Step 4

When you think the burrito is fully reheated take a thermometer and use it to read the internal temperature of the burrito. If it is below 165F then you need to reheat if for a few minutes. Make sure you always eat the burrito whilst hot.

Reheat burrito using a grill

NB: this method requires a lot of time so you can try this method if you have a lot of time on your hands.

Step 1

Start by lighting half of the grill. This is because when reheating a burrito using a grill you will be using the indirect grilling method.

Step 2

Take the burrito and place it on the grill but on the side that is not lit. The heat from the lit side will slowly be heating the burrito. Do this for about 30 minutes.

Step 3

After 30 minutes remove the burrito from the unlit side and transfer it to the lit side. This will help to add grill marks on the burrito. Make sure you only do this for a few minutes since the burrito can stat to burn.

Step 4

When you are satisfied with the grill marks on your burrito take a meat thermometer and use it to read the temperature of the burrito. If it is above 165F then it’s safe to eat.
