What is naan bread?

Naan bread is a leavened type of bread. Leavened bread basically means that the bread is prepared using a raising agent like yeast. Naan bread is very common in the Indian community but nowadays you can find it at a wide range of supermarkets.

Methods of reheating naan bread

Reheat naan bread using a microwave

NB: this is the fastest and easiest method to use when reheating naan bread.

The microwave can be used to reheat naan bread that is at room temperature and also naan bread that is frozen. Reheating naan bread usually takes 30 to 90 seconds depending on the amount of naan bread you have. It is important to reheat naan bread for a short time so that it remains soft and moist. The first step to take when using the microwave to reheat naan bread is to place the naan bread in a microwave container and reheat it for about 30 seconds; that is if you are reheating 1 naan bread, but if you are reheating 2 or more then you will need to adjust the time to about 90 seconds. It is worth noting that if you reheat the naan bread longer than the stipulated time frame them you are most likely to get a rubbery naan bread since most of the moisture would have been drained out during the reheating process. This is because the microwave produces a lot of radiation.

Reheat naan bread using a stove

NB: this method works well when you are reheating naan bread that is not frozen.

The first thing to do when using a stove to reheat naan bread is to find a skillet. Place the skillet on a stove that is switched on between medium and high heat so that skillet can absorb heat faster. When the bottom of the skillet has heated up place the naan bread inside, with the top side down to give it a char.  Make sure you do not burn the naan bread whilst doing this, so it is very important to keep a close eye on the skillet. When it is done flip it over and brush the top part with butter. It takes about 30 seconds to fully reheat the naan bread. When you are done you can dress up the naan bread whichever way you like.

Reheat naan bread using an oven

NB: when using the oven to reheat naan bread you need to add a little bit of water to the naan bread so that it does not dry out during the reheating process.

When using the oven to reheat naan bread start by preheating the oven to 400F. The next step is to oil the baking sheet and place the naan bread on top. Add a few sprinkles of water on top of the naan bread. This will help to prevent the naan bread from drying out, it will actually help to retain the soft texture of the naan bread. When you have followed all the steps take the baking sheet with the naan bread and place it inside the oven for a period of about 2 to 3 minutes. When the naan bread is completely reheated brush it with butter just to add flavour to it. Serve it immediately while hot so as to preserve the taste and moisture of the naan bread.

Reheat naan bread using a toaster

NB: you can use this easy method if you are reheating naan bread for 1 person.

Since a toaster is a small kitchen appliance as compared to all the other appliances listed above, it can only be used to reheat small quantities of naan bread. In order to reheat the naan bread using a toaster the first thing is to cut the naan bread into smaller pieces that can fit inside the toaster. Make sure you cut the naan bread neatly because if you do not you will have tiny pieces of the bread flapping around near the element. Place the neatly sliced pieces of naan bread into the toaster and leave them there for about 1 or 2 minutes depending on the strength of your toaster. Regularly check on the naan bread to see if its reheating the way you like it, so I advise that you turn the naan bread around as you go until its properly reheated.  Serve it immediately when you are done so that you can really enjoy its soft moist texture.

Reheat naan bread by steaming it

NB: this method can be used to reheat naan bread and no oil is required to do this.

When steaming left over naan bread the first thing to do is find a steamer basket and a pot but if you do not have a steamer basket simply use a strainer. Place water inside the pot but make sure that the water does not touch the steamer basket. Place the pot on a stove and allow the water to reach a boil. Add the naan bread in the pot and cover it with a lid.  Allow the naan bread to reheat inside for about 2 minutes or until it is soft. Serve the naan bread while it’s still warm and you can dress it up the way you like.

How to add flavour to naan bread

Naan bread can lose some of its flavour while in the refrigerator but the best part is that you can add flavour to the naan bread when reheating it using either the stove or the oven. The most common ingredients that are used to add flavour to the naan bread include cilantro, ghee, garlic, ginger, sesame seeds and mint. So the next time you are reheating your naan bread you can easily add these ingredients just to take your naan bread to the next level.
