How To Reheat Zoodles

Zoodles is a name used to refer to zucchini noodles, these are long thin strips that resemble pasta noodles. They are a healthier alternative to pasta especially if you are trying to cut down on curbs. So if you are on a diet and you have cravings for pasta I would strongly recommend trying out zoodles. They are also loved by children because of their spiral shape and name which is appealing therefore, you don’t have to go through the hustle of trying to convince your children to eat their vegetables. Zoodles can be prepared and stored in the refrigerator for future use, therefore if you have craving for zoodles you can just reheat them up instead of having to spiralise zucchinis each time you want to prepare them. However, reheating zoodles without the proper knowledge could make them soggy and watery but no need to worry, this article provides clear instructions on how to reheat zoodles so that they retain their flavour and perfect texture.

Reheat zoodles using a stove

NB: reheat zoodles separately from the sauce since zoodles release water when they are reheated.

The first step is to switch on the stove to medium heat and place skillet on it. For every spiralised zucchini add a knob of unsalted butter or 2 tablespoons of olive oil or coconut oil. Add salt to the zoodles and sauté them for several minutes, use tongs to turn the zoodles to ensure that they reheat on all the sides. When the colour of the zoodles deepens and they soften it means that they are completely reheated. Add the sauce that you would have prepared separately to the zoodles.

Reheat zoodles using boiling water

NB: This is the easiest method to use when reheating zoodles

The first step is to put water and salt in a pot, allow the salted water to boil. When the water has reached its boiling point put the zoodles in a colanderand dip the colander with zoodles in the boiling water. Allow the zoodles to reheat for about 30 seconds before removing them from the water. This method ensures that the zoodles do not overcook. In case you do not have a colander in your house you can just switch off the stove when salted water has boiled then add the zoodles and let them sit in the salted hot water for about 1 to 2 minutes. When the zoodles are reheated you can serve them with any sauce and toppings of your choice.

Reheat zoodles using an oven

NB: this is the best method to use if you are reheating zoodles for a large number of people, however it is very time consuming as compared to all the other methods.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees then take the frozen zoodles and pour them into an oven baking tray or an oven safe bowl. Make sure you spread out the zoodles so that they form an even layer, thus making it easier for them to reheat at the same speed. Cover the baking tray or bowl with aluminium foil and bake the zoodles for about 10 to 20 minutes. Regularly check on the zoodles so that they do not overcook. Once the zoodles reheat you can switch off the oven and keep the zoodles in the oven until you are ready to serve your guests. The residual heat in the oven will help to keep the zoodles warm.
